Inevitable

I harbor these feelings inside me

knowing they’ll be the death of me

like lost time, my dreams end up, cutting

my flesh, shattered pieces

clattering on the linoleum

Infatuation is a cruel salesman

charming the young until they’re

dizzy on their blush

then, with a flick of the hand

he takes from them the only

payment they can offer

for some, it’s their confidence

esteem, status

but for the unlucky few

he steals from them their

ability to fully love another again

You see there is no money-back gurantee

in love

the only benefit one’s bound to get

is disappointment, the hidden razor

of a dream
